Welcome to a Season of Growing

Welcome to the Children's Room!

Come on in and settle beside the sunshine, where curious little hearts, muddy shoes, and growing imaginations remind us that life is always changing and growing.

This month's activity is a simple way to help children notice how making space for new growth is something nature does every day.

What Making Room for New Growth Can Teach Us

Look around outside and you'll see it everywhere.

Plants grow stronger when old leaves are cleared away.

Gardens thrive when weeds are gently removed.

Even trees and flowers make space for new blossoms and fresh growth.

Children experience growth in their own way too.

They outgrow toys, learn new skills, discover new interests, and sometimes let go of worries or frustrations that no longer need to stay.

This month, we'll explore how making room for new growth is a natural part of life.

This Month's Activity: Creating a Little Growth Garden

Purpose

To help children notice how creating space can help new things grow.

What You Need

  • A small outdoor space, flowerpot, or garden bed

  • A few minutes together

  • Optional: a small flower, herb, seed, or plant

Steps

  1. Walk together and look for a small area where something is growing.

  2. Gently remove a few dry leaves, small weeds, or anything that no longer belongs there.

  3. As you clear the space, talk about how plants need room to grow.

  4. If you'd like, plant a seed, flower, or herb in the newly cleared space.

  5. Take a moment to admire the area and notice how it feels now that there is more room for growth.

Time

5–10 minutes

Optional Add-On

Invite your child to draw a picture of what they hope will grow there in the coming weeks.

Questions to Explore Together

  • What do you think helps plants grow strong and healthy?

  • What new thing are you learning or growing into right now?

  • How do you think nature makes room for new growth?

Why This Simple Activity Matters

Children naturally understand the world through what they can see, touch, and experience.

When they help care for a growing space, they begin to understand that growth often requires making room for something new.

This activity gently introduces the idea that change can be healthy and natural.

Just as gardens need space to flourish, children can learn that growing sometimes means letting go of what no longer fits and welcoming new possibilities with curiosity and confidence.

A Gentle Goodbye

May the little ones in your life find joy in growing, exploring, and caring for the living world around them.

Thank you for helping young hearts build a loving relationship with the Earth, one small moment at a time.
